Acupuncture Dao Holistic
Dao Holistic offers a comprehensive acupuncture service in Staybridge, Ashton Under Lyne, Tameside and surrounding areas such as Manchester and Glossop.
What makes our traditional acupuncture unique is that it is often combined with other techniques such as Muscle Energy Technique (MET), Spinal Manipulation, Cupping and Trigger Point Release / Acupressure. This often improves the effectiveness for neck and back problems and leads to a quicker recovery from conditions such as sciatica and nerve impingement issues in the neck and shoulder areas.
What is Acupuncture?
Traditional Chinese and Japanese Acupuncture
Acupuncture is thought to have been used for over 2500 years to treat a multitude of medical conditions and restore health. Our Acupuncture Clinic in Tameside uses both Chinese and Japanese acupuncture techniques often combined with other manual therapies such as spinal manipulation (Osteopathy), Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) and Trigger Point Therapy. Chinese acupuncture general uses needles with coiled handles and treats points on the meridian system which carries Qi around the body. Japanese acupuncture uses straight pipe handled needles which are often stimulated by direct heat produced by burning Moxa. Moxibustion can also be applied directly on the skin or burnt on garlic or ginger if needles are not used. Acupuncture combined with other manual techniques such as Spinal Manipulation (Osteopathy), Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) and Trigger Point Therapy is very useful for treating neck and lower back conditions.
How does it work?
There are several theories as to how acupuncture works, such as stimulating the nervous system and causing the secretion of chemicals called endorphins which are thought to alter the pain messages in our brain. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qi energy flows in channels throughout the body, stimulation of acupuncture points on these channels is believed to encourage the healing process.
What can acupuncture be used for?
Acupuncture is particularly effective in the treatment of painful conditions such as back and neck pain. It can be used to treat a wide range of conditions such as migraine, stress, asthma, and many other common conditions.
What happens during acupuncture?
In the first session, details of your problem will be taken and a diagnosis and treatment plan made. A number of acupuncture points will then be selected and very thin needles inserted into them, because the needles are very thin, you shouldn’t feel more than very minor discomfort if any. All acupuncture needles are sterile single use disposable needles used once only and then discarded safely. Because of the information taken from you, the first session will always be longer than following sessions, about 1-1.5 hours so please allow enough time for this.
How do I prepare for an acupuncture session?
You are advised not to drink alcohol on the day of your treatment or engage in strenuous exercise immediately before or after your treatment. You need to inform your acupuncturist of any medical conditions or any medication you are taking before treatment starts.
